The ability of local authorities, to manage water resources is a prerequisite for a reliable design and implementation of local cross-sectorial policies. Environmental monitoring and management research and practice is increasingly aided by and dependent on information technology. The information technology is an important tool in water resources monitoring and decision making support related to water quality and quantity, not only because management practices differ from one location to another, but also because the space defines the perception of local communities and determines the requested environmental information and interpretation at local and regional level within a river basin. However the involvement of users in decision-making problems is limited by the lack of connectivity and networking at all levels (both in technical and conceptual aspect). The aim of this work was to develop a dynamic web application for environmental monitoring and decision making support of local authorities, based on time and space diversified information and knowledge and the involvement of stakeholders. |
